New geological map of the Kingdom of the Netherlands handed over to Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK)
On Wednesday 3 April, the new geological map of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was officially handed over to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK). On behalf of the Geological Survey of the Netherlands (GDN), Tirza van Daalen, GDN director, and Paul Bogaard, GDN secretary, presented the map to Esther Pijs, Programme Director-General Groningen and the Subsurface at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK).
GDN, part of TNO, has been collecting and managing subsurface data for more than a century. The subsurface, and therefore data and information about the subsurface, is becoming increasingly important in societal issues, such as the energy and materials transition, subsidence, and spatial planning. ‘This beautiful new map is going to help us all understand the important role of the subsurface in the energy transition. And I am really very grateful to TNO’s Geological Survey of the Netherlands for this’, says Esther Pijs.
Order the printed geological map of the Netherlands
For the first time in almost half a century, GDN has summarised the state of knowledge of the Dutch subsurface in a new geological map. The previous edition dates back to 1975. The new map is based on a wide range of published data and is supplemented by new information and insights. The overview map now also includes the Caribbean part of the kingdom and an entirely new representation of the geology of the North Sea.
The folded printed geological map of the Kingdom of the Netherlands can be ordered from the GDN webshop.
