GDN-TNO present at the 2023 Earth Science Career Event.
On Friday 17 February 2023, the Geological Survey of the Netherlands (GDN) was present at the Earth Science Career Event (ESCE) at Amsterdam’s VU University. This event is the national career event for students and starters with a geoscientific background. [1]Many students visited our stand at the Business Market and had signed up for our workshop.
Guest speaker
Tirza van Daalen, director of GDN, was invited as a guest speaker during the morning programme.
She explained how relevant earth sciences are for society, both now and in the future. And how GDN contributes to the Netherlands’ major current themes: the energy transition, a safe and liveable delta, the effects of mining, and the digital subsurface. GDN-TNO stand at the Business Market
Four GDN staff members offered students information about GDN, open vacancies, internship opportunities, and the TNO traineeprogramme. They had many fun and interesting conversations about their work and research.
Workshop
A group of enthusiastic students had signed up for the workshop. They were tasked with investigating the geothermal potential of a particular area in the Netherlands. The aim of the assignment was to find the most optimal location for a geothermal system by analysing the available subsurface data.
In short, we can look back at a successful contribution to the ESCE 2023 by GDN, part of TNO. It was incredible to meet so many enthusiastic and interested (inter)national students in our field!
We thank the SAL board for organising the event and look forward to the next ESCE edition in 2025!
