Friday 21 April: TISOLS 2023 concludes with ‘Subsidence and Society Day’ in Gouda.
UNIQUE: This year, the Netherlands will host TISOLS, the Tenth International Symposium on Subsidence.
TISOLS will take place from 16 – 21 April 2023 in the Sint-Janskerk in Gouda.
Theme closing day: ‘Subsidence and Society Day’
Friday 21 April will be dedicated to the interaction between science and policy. Scientists, policymakers, decision-makers, and other experts will discuss strategies and solutions to the global problem of subsidence. The TISOLS organisation envisages a lively interaction between the international scientific community and the local Dutch subsidence community. And also the sharing of best practices and lessons learned. More than 100 international and national scientists, and 100 professionals, directors, administrators, and other stakeholders from the Netherlands are expected to attend.
In short, this day will offer the opportunity to engage with subsidence professionals from around the world.
Agenda (highlights):
- Official opening of the Soil Subsidence and Foundations Knowledge Centre.
- Annemieke Nijhof (general director of Deltares) and GDN director Tirza van Daalen will give an interview during the official opening. They will discuss the role and importance of research, data, and information in designing subsidence strategies.
- Participants will be shown how three world cities (Houston, Shanghai, and Venice) deal with subsidence.
- After lunch, participants can join one of the 12 panel discussions to discuss the different elements of subsidence.
- At the end of the day, a city walk through Gouda will be organised, focusing on subsidence and water management.
